From a prominent corner position in South Yarra, the Trevor West store has serviced the South Yarra region with fine menswear for decades. They
continue to do so, stocking a large range of Hugo Boss business suits, clothing and accessories.

Eight years ago, the business incorporated a formal hire service, providing their clients with a highly contemporary and stylish formal wear source.

Jazz loving marketing manager, Ted Vining, explains the principles behind Trevor West.

Describe the services you offer.
As a retailer - the latest in men's fashion suits, jackets, knits, trousers, shirts and accessories. For formal wear - a wide range of quality suits, vests and accessories from the "classic" to the "contemporary", including outfits for children aged 2 to
16 years.

We have a personal in-store fitting service and a delivery/pick-up service to the city and inner suburban areas.
As winners of the year 2000 ABIA Award for Excellence we can proudly boast our endeavours in the areas of style, quality and first class service.

How long has Trevor West been operating?
Forty six years as a men's fashion retailer, eight years in the formal hire
business, always at 79 Toorak Road, South Yarra.

What type of guy is your typical formal wear client?
There is no typical formal wear client. The occasion creates the demand, from weddings to school formals to funerals to balls, conferences and racing carnivals. The demographic range is very wide, from two years of age (page boy) to sixty plus (father or grandfather of the bride).

What types of formal wear suits do you stock?
As a retailer, Hugo Boss double breasted and one and three button single breasted dinner suits. Formal wear hire suits are styled for and carry the Trevor West label with heavy emphasis on quality and elegance. Garments are steam cleaned and pressed on the premises when returned.

What attire is appropriate for a very formal wedding?
This is really a matter of personal taste, however, we would normally
recommend tails or morning suits.

And a more casual celebration?
Again, this is entirely up to the customer. We carry a good range of suit styles and accessories for the less formal occasions.

Which was the most stylish wedding you have outfitted to date?

Hire or buy - what's the most popular and practical choice?
In money terms, this is entirely dependent on the regularity of the need. Should you be fortunate enough to gain membership of the Royal Melbourne Golf Club, the yearly subscription fee would become very costly if the frequency of use was but once or twice a year! The same could be said of the purchase of a quality dinner suit. On the other hand, hiring provides the opportunity to vary your appearance in terms of style and perhaps changes in weight and size. You can also avoid that old saying: "He's wearing that suit again".

Jazz music - what makes it so cool?
To answer this question fully I'd need around 16 pages, but for the benefit of this exercise...
Modern contemporary Jazz is my passion and one I refuse to compromise. As a drummer/band leader I am privileged to perform with the like-minded
improvising musicians whose dedication to this great black American art form is unquestionable.
Yes, it's cool, it's hot, it's adventurous and creatively it's very exciting... just like a nicely tailored suit.
