Dingley Flower Cottage

Florist: Glynnis Healey

Describe your style of floral design:
Our style consists of quality and high standards that allow us the flexibility to individually design to the bride's theme.

What's the most important thing a bride should consider when selecting her flowers?
Some of the points a bride should consider are: the availability of flowers, flowers with colour tones to match the wedding, the size of the arrangement in relation to the bride and the suitability of the flowers to her theme.

What are your favourite looks in terms of wedding bouquets? Do you favour contemporary or classic designs?
I personally don't have a favourite. What I love to see is that we have made the flowers special for the bride, when her theme, dress and flowers come together and her dream comes true. My focus is the bride - her dream on her day.

What has been a favourite wedding for which you have created the flowers?
There have been so many weddings where our brides have been so pleased with their flowers, that they become our favourites. You've done your job when the bride is happy.

What bouquet styles suit a slinky gown? And what about a full 'fairytale' gown?
For a long, white gown, for example, an arm sheaf of lilies, tulips or roses would look beautiful, as would a small posy of roses or dainty, small flowers.
A full skirted gown with tulle and beading, for example, would be complemented by a trailing bouquet or tear drop, or a cluster of roses in natural stems.

What blooms are good for resilience?
If flowers are prepared properly, they should remain in good condition for the duration of the wedding day.

How should fragile flowers be treated?
Flowers will leave the florist prepared and packed to prevent crushing or bruising.

During the day the bride could ask an attendant to hold her flowers when she is required elsewhere, not left in the hire car in the heat between the ceremony and reception.

How long in advance should a bride book her florist?
As soon as the bride has her gown, her bridesmaids' colours or dresses and has booked the reception she should book her florist. On average, this is three to six months before the wedding.
